USC Pacific Asia Museum Announces Free Admission Days and Public Programs In Celebration of December Grand Reopening

USC Pacific Asia Museum (PAM) is proud to announce free admission from December 8-17, 2017 and a schedule of free public programs through January 2018 to celebrate the grand reopening after the seismic retrofit of its 1924 Chinese Qing Dynasty-inspired home.
The free public programs are presented in conjunction with the special exhibition Winds from Fusang: Mexico and China in the Twentieth Century as part of the Getty’s Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA.
The seismic retrofit strengthened the building’s foundation and added additional gallery space for special exhibitions.
In addition to the special programs and exhibition, the building will reopen with a refreshed 21st century look, featuring an updated gallery flow, a new visitor center and gift shop, plus museum admission will now be free every Thursday from 5-8pm.

Conversation@PAM: Martial Arts in 1960s Chinese Cinema

This edition of Conversation@PAM will examine the connections between King Hu’s martial arts films and the emergence of martial arts film as a genre in Chinese and Sinophone contexts.
By looking at the intersection between animation, literature, and cinema, this presentation discusses how “Chineseness” is negotiated through visual representations. Presentation and discussion facilitated by USC Ph.D. candidate Melissa Chan.
