Offering a nostalgic and carefree vibe, the stylishly retro, mid-century modern Hotel Valley Ho is a Palm Springs kind of oasis in Scottsdale, Arizona.

As I learned recently, you’re pretty much guaranteed an upscale experience when staying at this beautifully appointed property. With its comfortable beds, spacious rooms—each with a sunny balcony—featuring mid-century furniture, Hotel Valley Ho provides a super modern and hip retreat. Best of all, thick brick walls will keep your room peaceful. We stayed in a King room in the Tower with a view of the OHasis Pool which is a tranquil retreat, ideal for leisurely laps and lounging.

Be advised — the Valley Ho makes up the beds ‘European’ style, so there is no top sheet. You can request a top sheet at check-in.

The decor features bright accents and retro furnishings, but you’ll also find modern updates like USB outlets for charging your devices.

It’s definitely an authentic mid-century hotel with just the right amount of current updates. The fitness facilities are spacious with clean and modern equipment. Their spa offers a range of services as well. More info here.

Centrally located in downtown Scottsdale, the hotel is easily walkable to most everything, especially the art galleries, shops and restaurants on and around Main Street of Old Town.

An historic hotel—also called the Valley Ho and, for 28 years, the Ramada Valley Ho—the hotel was originally designed by Edward L. Varney, a student of Frank Lloyd Wright. It first opened in 1956 with a forward-looking and futuristic design.

Movie stars and famous baseball players stayed, and the building quickly became known for its trendsetting guests and its fashionable atmosphere. The success of the venture resulted in expansion in 1958, with two additional two-story wings of guest rooms extending to the north.

Hotel Valley Ho has some amazing-sounding events coming up. Their popular Easter brunch is happening this Sunday, April 16, with a delicious buffet in their Sands venue as well as seasonal dining all day at ZuZu.

On April 24, Caymus Vineyards is their special guest for a Monday Night Chef’s Table featuring their exceptional wines.

If you arrive on the weekend, as we did, you’ll be struck by the upbeat party vibe going on in the main pool area — The OH Pool. Pop songs blaring and laughter and splashes abound. Curiously enough, the property is so well laid out that if you are staying near the secondary lap pool, you cannot even hear there’s a party going on!

There’s pool-side drinking and dining as well as room service options to indulge in.

The elegantly curved bar also offers some good people watching opportunities. It opens out to the ZuZu restaurant where we enjoyed a delicious lunch. Pictured is my salad with perfectly cooked and very fresh salmon steak.
