According to actor Tom Hanks, the American Film Institute (AFI) is “one of the greatest institutions in the world.” The deep love of cinema amongst the attendees and movie goers and the shared celebration is what makes this festival so special.
AFI Fest presented by Canva in Hollywood, at the classic TCL Chinese Theatre, has recently concluded after a long October weekend that was jam-packed with screenings and events.
The film festival opened with the World Premiere of Music by John Williams and closed with the World Premiere of Clint Eastwood’s Juror #2.
Additional Red Carpet Premieres included Heretic starring Hugh Grant, the World Premiere of Robert Zemeckis’ Here, Maria starring Angelina Jolie and the World Premiere of Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl. Films that featured in the Special Screenings section included Bird, The Fire Inside, I’m Still Here, Nightbitch, The Order, A Real Pain, The Room Next Door, The Summer Book and Unstoppable.

The annual festival celebrates the art of film and features a selection of international films, including documentaries, short films, and world cinema. The festival also includes panels and discussions with filmmakers. Incidentally, the AFI Fest is a qualifying festival for the Academy Awards, BAFTA Film Awards, and British Independent Film Awards (BIFA). The American Film Institute also has a second film festival, AFI Docs, in Washington, D.C., and Silver Spring, Maryland.
