DRUMLine Live, most recently seen in Beyoncé’s acclaimed film Homecoming documenting her Coachella performances, bring their rhythms, beats, and energy – and choreographed routines – to the Hollywood Bowl for the July Fourth Fireworks Spectacular, joining Nile Rodgers & CHIC and the Los Angeles Philharmonic led by Thomas Wilkins.
Based on the Historically Black College and University (HBCU) drumline marching band tradition, DRUMline Live is a musical showcase of the HBCU experience, created by the musical team behind the hit movies Drumline and Drumline: A New Beat. DRUMline Live continues the practice with a large repertoire of music, from original compositions to Top 40 hits, and recreates the sights, sounds, and attitudes of the HBCU drumline marching band showdown. All the members are HBCU alumni.
Nile Rodgers is also no stranger to the world of drumline himself, as evidenced by his composition “The King’s Motorcade” from the films Coming to America and Drumline, which is now a drumline standard. DRUMline Live will include this piece in their three Hollywood Bowl performances as part of a program that will also include music familiar to fans of Homecoming, as well as material that they have never performed on the West Coast. In addition to their onstage appearances, the group will also be performing short, pre-show sets each night at 6:15pm in the Box Office Plaza area of the Hollywood Bowl.

About DRUMLine Live:
DRUMLine Live is an international touring group based on the Historically Black College and University (HBCU) marching band tradition. All the members are alumni of HBCUs. Don P. Roberts is the CEO, Music Director of the group, a Florida A&M University alum (graduated 1985) and former Marching 100 drum major, and is recognized as one of the country’s most respected music educators.
The Florida A&M influence increased when Beyoncé’s team requested the assistance of Roberts for her 2018 Coachella performance documented in the Netflix movie Homecoming – though Don has also gained national recognition as executive band consultant for the movie Drumline, where he was in charge of working with actors, creating the precision drills and more. With riveting rhythms, bold beats and ear-grabbing energy, this stage show is a synchronized musical showcase of the HBCU experience. Incorporating original compositions and soul-infused interpretations of well-known hits, the performances range from colorful, choreographed routines to heavy doses of drum riffs and cadences.
About the Hollywood Bowl:
One of the largest natural amphitheaters in the world, with a seating capacity of nearly 18,000, the Hollywood Bowl has been the summer home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic since its official opening in 1922 and plays host to the finest artists from all genres of music, offering something for everyone. It remains one of the best deals anywhere in Los Angeles; to this day, $1 buys a seat at the top of the Bowl for many classical and jazz performances.
In February 2018, the Hollywood Bowl was named Best Major Outdoor Concert Venue for the 14th year in a row at the 29th Annual Pollstar Awards and in November 2018 was awarded the Top Amphitheater prize at the 2018 Billboard Live Music Awards for the second consecutive year. For millions of music lovers across Southern California, the Hollywood Bowl is synonymous with summer.
