~~ Performance ~ Music ~ Cocktails ~ Misbehavior ~~
Co-producers and playwrights Vanessa Cate and Luis Reyes have crafted a cabaret-style evening of live jazz blended with original, short plays inspired by famous local crimes, notorious criminals and their hapless victims. With these taut dramas, the playwrights tap into that rich vein of tragedy that flows through this glittering city while the actors and writers sink their teeth into meaty monologues and compelling exchanges.
For its twelfth presentation, the next show is this Friday, May 24th at 8pm.
Tickets are available here.
After you grab a stiff cocktail at the Three Clubs bar, the evening warms up with the jazzy stylings of a cool quartet consisting of Claire de Dobay Rifelj, Todd Richmond, Hiroo Nakano, and Jason Olsen. There are usually four short dramatic interludes, with musical sets bridging each piece. It adds up to a nicely balanced and entertaining evening that is affordable.
Last month, John Kenower’s compelling monologue ONE NIGHT WITH YOU was a haunting voice
from beyond the grave as he drew us into the events leading up to the shocking
murder of himself – tough guy Johnny Stompanado – at the hands of his famous girlfriend’s
teenaged daughter.
