The Los Angeles Philharmonic has announced the line-up for the 39th annual Playboy Jazz Festival, to be held Saturday, June 10, and Sunday, June 11, 2017, at the Hollywood Bowl. An internationally acclaimed event, the Playboy Jazz Festival is one of the premier jazz festivals in the United States and attracts audiences from across the globe.

This year’s festival leans heavily towards an eclectic array of vocalists, Festival first-timers and emerging artists alongside jazz legends and next generation leaders, with headliners including Festival favorite and bassist/producer/bandleader Marcus Miller, Grammy®-winning vocalist and songwriter Gregory Porter, Festival first-timer and two-time Grammy®-winner Corinne Bailey Rae, singer/actor/spoken wordsmith Common, the Festival debut of blues band extraordinaire TajMo’: The Taj Mahal and Keb’ Mo’ Band, R&B royalty and recent 2-time Grammy®-winner Lalah Hathaway, jazz titans Hudson with Jack DeJohnette, Larry Grenadier, John Medeski, John Scofield and another festival favorite, Grammy®-winners The Kenny Garrett Quintet.

These artists will be joined by another Festival favorite and jazz trumpet legend, the Arturo Sandoval Latin Big Band, cutting-edge first-timers and Los Angeles’ own socially conscious bassist and composer Miles Mosley & The West Coast Get Down, British newcomer Jacob Collier, Carl Allen & The Art of Elvin (honoring Art Blakey and Elvin Jones), first-timers and acoustic Gypsy Jazzers The Django Festival Allstars, The DIVA Jazz Orchestra, first-timers and Oakland’s The California Honeydrops, New Orleans own funkmeisters Cory Henry & The Funk Apostles (also making their festival debut), festival newcomers the Brazilian Hamilton De Holanda Trio and the CSULB Pacific Standard Time Vocal Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Christine Guter and The LAUSD/Beyond the Bell All-City Jazz Big Band under the direction of Tony White and J.B. Dyas, who traditionally start off the Saturday and Sunday festivities every year.

A very special celebratory tribute to the late jazz giant and vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson will feature Celebrating Bobby Hutcherson, Stefon Harris, Musical Director with special guests Roy Ayers and Warren Wolf.

A legend in the pantheon of music festivals, the Playboy Jazz Festival has featured the talents of artists ranging from legends such as Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie™ and Count Basie to today’s hottest stars and contemporary artists including Herbie Hancock, Wynton Marsalis, The Roots, Esperanza Spalding and Trombone Shorty.  Now in its 39th year, the Playboy Jazz Festival will once again feature two days of extraordinary musical performances with multi-talented entertainer George Lopez hosting for the fifth year in a row.

FestivalWest Inc., will be producing the Playboy Jazz Festival for the 39th consecutive year, in association with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

About the Hollywood Bowl:

One of the largest natural amphitheaters in the world, with a seating capacity of nearly 18,000, the Hollywood Bowl has been the summer home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic since its official opening in 1922, and plays host to the finest artists from all genres of music, offering something for everyone. It remains one of the best deals anywhere in Los Angeles; to this day, $1 buys a seat at the top of the Bowl for many classical and jazz performances. In February 2017, the Hollywood Bowl was named Best Major Outdoor Concert Venue for the thirteenth year in a row at the 28th Annual Pollstar Awards. For millions of music lovers across Southern California, the Hollywood Bowl is synonymous with summer.
