An Icelandic immersion awaits on Friday, April 7, with the Reykjavík Festival’s Opening Night: Made in Iceland – Live featuring music, visual art, film, and an exclusive craft beer tasting from Einstök Beer Company taking over Walt Disney Concert Hall, both inside and out. Featured will be some of the city’s most exciting musical artists, including the celebrated electronic band múm performing on the main stage of Walt Disney Concert Hall, in addition to Skúli Sverrisson + Ólöf Arnalds, dj. flugvél og geimskip (Airplane & Spaceship) and JFDR, with former Sigur Rós collaborators amiina performing in the intimate BP Hall. Unveiled on this night will be a visual art installation in BP Hall from Hrafnhildur Arnardóttir, aka Shoplifter, whose LA Phil-commissioned, site-specific installation is called Nervescape VI and is made from synthetic hair extensions and rope. The installation will add to the Festival’s diverse visual art offerings that also includes designs by Siggi Eggertsson. Screenings of the film Driving at the speed of the Nordic sun, by Xárene Eskandar with music by Daníel Bjarnason will also happen continuously outdoors in W.M. Keck Foundation Children’s Amphitheatre, beginning at 9AM until 5:30PM for the public, and from 5:30PM until the end of the concert for ticket holders.

Skúli Sverrisson is an established bass player, composer and producer who will perform with singer and multi-instrumentalist Ólöf Arnalds, and composer, percussionist and keyboard player Ólafur Björn Ólafsson. dj. flugvél og geimskip (Airplane & Spaceship) is a one-person electronic orchestra who describes her music as “horror electronic music from outer space,” and JFDR is the classical/electronic/folk music purveyor with whom Björk has said to be “obsessed.”

Opening Night: Made in Iceland – Live features established and emerging acts from the flourishing Icelandic music scene.
