Kite-Making with Basir Beria

International kite master Basir Beria, a specialist in Afghan fighter kites, was the kite master on location for the making of the movie, The Kite Runner. In this workshop, the master shares his knowledge of this Afghan art form and teaches participants how to make an Afghan fighter kite. Beria will demonstrate how to whittle bamboo for the kite frame and provide pre-cut materials. Using bamboo and tissue paper participants will assemble and decorate their own kite, which will then be flown on the UCLA campus.

 

Presented in conjunction with the exhibition Order and Disorder: Alighiero Boetti by Afghan Women.

 

For adults and teens ages 13+. Limited to twenty participants.

 

$20.00 members; $25.00 general (includes materials).
