Pasadena Art Weekend

 

Enjoy a free evening of art, music and entertainment as Pasadena’s most prominent arts and cultural institutions swing open their doors. Last fall, 14,000 people experienced the excitement of ArtNight!

 

The 7th Annual Pasadena ArtWeekend takes place October 12—14, 2012, with a colorful palette of free events for art and culture lovers to enjoy.

5 Events * One Weekend * All Free

Visitors have five opportunities to experience the arts in Pasadena with ArtNight, Art of Food, ArtWalk, ArtPerformance and ArtRhythm.

Each event highlights diverse locations throughout Pasadena, including Old Pasadena, the Playhouse District and many more.

ArtNight Pasadena
Friday, October 12 * 6 p.m. – 10 p.m.
ArtNight kicks off Pasadena ArtWeekend when 16 cultural institutions open their doors free of charge. Free shuttle service is available. Participating organizations for this event include Alliance de Francaise de Pasadena, Armory Center for the Arts, Art Center College of Design, artWORKS at Learning Works!, Kidspace Children’s Museum, Lineage Performing Arts Center, Norton Simon Museum, One Colorado, Pacific Asia Museum, Pasadena Central Library, Pasadena City College, Pasadena Museum of California Art, Pasadena Museum of History, Pennington Dance at ARC Pasadena, Boston Court and Side Street Projects.

Art of Food
Saturday, October 13 * 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
251 South Lake Avenue

Art of Food is South Lake Avenue’s free outdoor food and wine festival. Enjoy mouth-watering culinary creations from South Lake’s finest restaurants, raffle prizes, music, and a beer and wine garden.

ArtWalk
Saturday, October 13 * 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Playhouse District, along El Molino at Colorado Blvd.

Stroll through the open-air art fair of original works by 25 of Southern California’s best visual artists, selected by jury, showcasing their work in painting, sculpture, watercolor, photography, mixed media, ceramics, jewelry, drawings, and printmaking. Attend art discussions, participate in hands-on activities, take a self-guided gallery tour, and enjoy live entertainment.

ArtRhythm
Saturday, October 13 * 5 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Paseo Colorado

ArtWeekend comes to an exciting crescendo with a night of music under the stars. This inspiring event celebrates world drumming traditions, ranging from Japan to Africa. Shake your groove thing with a samba and salsa concert finale.

ArtPerformance
Sunday, October 14 * 1 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Old Pasadena Cultural Dance Festival
Two locations: Lineage Performing Arts Center, 89 S. Fair Oaks Ave. & 35 N. De Lacey Ave.
Experience dance and cuisine from around the world. This free festival of multicultural costume, music and movement features dance troupes performing traditional Mexican, Russian, East Indian, Himalayan, and Polynesian dance among others. Enjoy savory ethnic dishes from some of Old Pasadena’s most popular restaurants. The event culminates with a very special performance from the Argentinian folk and indie pop group Salt Petal.

 

ArtWeekend is a joint venture between the City of Pasadena Cultural Affairs Division and Arts & Culture Commission, Pasadena Convention & Visitors Bureau, Playhouse District Association, Old Pasadena Management District, South Lake Business Association, Paseo Colorado, and Pasadena CultureNet.
